About Rajasthan

Rajasthan is to the northwest of India, bordered by Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat on the Indian side, and Pakistan on the other. Most of it is desert, with the Thar desert occupying a major portion of the State. It has a rich history, with roots going back to the Indus and Harrapan civilizations, followed by settlers from the northwest who formed Rajput kingdoms later on. This region was also ruled by the Western Kshatrapas, the Sakas, and the Scythians over the centuries. However, the various Rajput clans can be credited with the creation of umpteen forts and palaces dotting the landscape, each a gem of history and worth more than a cursory visit.
